Israel police have arrested at least five settlers for their alleged role in two separate incidents in which they attacked Israeli soldiers and a Major General.
In the first incident Major General Avi Bluth&rsquo;s convoy was stopped and attempted to attacked, they even blocked the road, in second incident a group of settlers wearing masks pelted stones on soldiers and Border Police Force.
According to the IDF statement dozens of settlers, some wearing masks, threw stones at Israeli soldiers and Border Police officers earlier today close to the Itamar colony in the West Bank. According to media reports on Friday night in Hebron, dozens of settlers harassed and tried to attack Maj.-Gen. Avi Bluth, the head of Central Command, leading to the arrest of five settlers.
On his way to operative activities, Bluth and other officers were reportedly chased by rioters, who also blocked the roadways. They yelled taunts at him as well.
In a statement, the IDF said that it "denounces violence of any kind against its service members and views incidents of this type with great severity." The group was dispersed quickly after the police detained five rioters.
According to the IDF, police and troops broke up the brawl and took five suspects into custody. There are no reported injuries.
Both incidences occurred after Israel Katz, the defence minister, stated on Friday that administrative detention orders for West Bank settlers would no longer be in effect. This means that Israel will only use the contentious practice of keeping suspects without charge against Palestinian terror suspects.
