Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, during his visit to Kyiv, announced a sweeping new package of military aid for Ukraine, underscoring Ottawa&rsquo;s continued commitment to strengthening Kyiv&rsquo;s defense capabilities against Russian aggression.
The package, worth 2 billion Canadian dollars ($1.45 billion), was first pledged during the G7 Summit in June but has now been detailed with a breakdown of urgent military requirements.
Of the total, 835 million Canadian dollars ($603 million) will go toward armored vehicles, medical equipment, spare parts, small arms, ammunition, explosives, and additional drone capabilities. Another 680 million Canadian dollars ($491 million) will fund military equipment sourced from the United States, with a particular focus on bolstering Ukraine&rsquo;s air defense systems.
In addition, 220 million Canadian dollars ($159 million) will be allocated for drones, counter-drone systems, and electronic warfare technologies, including joint ventures between Canadian and Ukrainian defense industries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the announcement and highlighted Canada&rsquo;s willingness to allocate $500 million under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List initiative to help procure advanced US-made weapons.
&ldquo;We have the necessary port infrastructure and storage capacities. Ukrainian storage facilities can be used for the supply of Canadian gas,&rdquo; Zelensky said, inviting Canada to join Ukraine&rsquo;s major energy projects as part of long-term cooperation.
Zelensky also expressed confidence that Canada could play a vital role in shaping security guarantees for Ukraine, an issue at the heart of Kyiv&rsquo;s international outreach.
This announcement marks one of the largest defense contributions by Canada to Ukraine and further aligns Ottawa with NATO allies supporting Kyiv&rsquo;s ongoing war effort.
