A damaged drone was discovered on Thursday near the India-Pakistan border in the Anupgarh area of Rajasthan&rsquo;s Sri Ganganagar district, raising security concerns over possible cross-border surveillance or espionage.
Local villagers spotted the drone-like object around 9:45 a.m. on Forest Department land near village 12A and immediately informed the Anupgarh Police Station. SHO Ishwar Jangid, along with a police team, reached the site, and the Border Security Force (BSF) was alerted. The area was swiftly cordoned off to prevent civilian access.
Eyewitnesses described the drone as being approximately 5 to 7 feet long, with a damaged camera detached from its body. Its design suggests it could have been used for reconnaissance or intelligence gathering.
Multiple security agencies are currently investigating the incident, with a bomb disposal squad deployed as a precaution. The drone has been seized and will undergo forensic and technical analysis to ascertain its origin and purpose.
The presence of such an object so close to the international border is being treated as a significant security threat. According to Additional SP Surendra Kumar, a sheepherder informed the village sarpanch, who then alerted the police and BSF.
Senior officials from the police, BSF, Army, and Air Force have arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough examination. A special team is also checking the drone for any explosive devices.
Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the drone was sent from across the border or accidentally entered Indian airspace during a military exercise. Access to the area remains restricted as the probe continues.
In related news, flights suspended since May 7 between Jaipur and Chandigarh have resumed as of Thursday. Additionally, flights to Kullu and Ghaziabad are also operational again.
