Rajasthan has registered its first case under the newly enacted Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2025, after two Christian missionaries in Kota were accused of allegedly inciting religious conversion during a three-day programme earlier this month.
Police said the event, held at Beersheba Church on Canal Road from November 4 to 6, allegedly involved attempts to encourage attendees to convert and included &ldquo;objectionable&rdquo; remarks against the Hindu community. 
It was also alleged that the Rajasthan government was described as &ldquo;the devil&rsquo;s kingdom.&rdquo;
The FIR was lodged late Thursday night at Borkheda Police Station following complaints filed by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal.
According to Station House Officer Devesh Bhardwaj, the accused, Chandi Varghese, a resident of Delhi, and Arun John of Kota, have been detained. 
Police claim the two pastors conducted the event as a &ldquo;spiritual satsang&rdquo; while allegedly promoting conversion and baptising attendees.
Authorities have obtained video recordings and social media livestreams purportedly showing speeches and activities from the gathering.
Bajrang Dal State Convenor Yogesh Renwal alleged that in one video, Father Chandi Varghese stated, &ldquo;Christianity will rise in Rajasthan tomorrow. People will be freed from the shackles of sin. Rajasthan is ruled by the devil, and Jesus will rule once Christianity spreads.&rdquo;
During the same programme, several youths claimed on stage that they had been baptised and urged others to embrace Christianity.
Police have invoked IPC Section 299 for hurting religious sentiments, along with Sections 3 and 5 of the Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2025.
Officials said the case is sensitive and that investigators will examine social media clips, speak to participants, and record statements from members of the Hindu community who attended the event.
The Home Department officially notified the new anti-conversion law on October 29, 2025. 
The legislation allows bail in all conversion-related cases, eliminates separate punishment categories, and prescribes prison terms of up to 20 years in matters involving love jihad.
