In a major push to modernise India&rsquo;s railway infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 103 redeveloped railway stations across 18 states under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). Among these, 19 stations are located in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the state's key role in the nationwide transformation.
The redeveloped stations in Uttar Pradesh include: Bijnor, Saharanpur Junction, Idgah Agra Junction, Goverdhan, Fatehabad, Karchana, Govindpuri, Pokhrayan, Izzatnagar, Bareilly City, Hathras City, Ujhani, Siddharth Nagar, Swaminarayan Chappia, Mailani Junction, Gola Gokarannath, Ramghat Halt, Suraimanpur, and Balrampur.
At Hathras City Railway Station, one of the key stations inaugurated, Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary was present to mark the occasion. The event included a tribute to the families of martyrs. Other dignitaries attending in person included the Hathras MP, District Panchayat President, three local MLAs, and Divisional Railway Manager Veena Sinha.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is part of a long-term vision to transform more than 1,300 railway stations across the country. It focuses on upgrading station facilities with modern amenities such as improved facades, rooftop plazas, food courts, children&rsquo;s play areas, and accessible infrastructure for differently-abled passengers.
In Agra, major developments are underway, with Idgah Railway Station being positioned as the city's second major station after Agra Cantt. Union Minister SP Singh Baghel was present for the inauguration at Idgah. In the Agra Division alone, 15 stations are being upgraded with a total investment exceeding ₹200 crore. Among them, five stations including Idgah, Goverdhan, and Fatehabad are nearing completion. Goverdhan Station has received over ₹16 crore in development funding.
Bijnor Railway Station, on the Najibabad-Gajraula line, now features a new 975 sq. metre building, enhanced platforms, waiting rooms, water booths, lifts, and Divyangjan-friendly amenities. A new 3-metre-wide foot overbridge and expanded circulation space, increased from 750 to over 3,100 sq. metres, have also been added.
Karchana Station in Prayagraj, redeveloped at a cost of ₹9.8 crore, was among the stations inaugurated. It now offers significantly upgraded services and facilities to travellers.
A total of 157 railway stations in Uttar Pradesh are set to be redeveloped under this scheme. Union Minister Anupriya Patel noted that these improvements will substantially enhance the travel experience for millions of passengers.
Residents have welcomed the initiative. Locals in Hathras expressed appreciation for the upgraded infrastructure, improved train services, and emphasis on cleanliness and accessibility.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme represents a shift in Indian Railways' approach&mdash;aiming not just for modern design, but also improved connectivity, environmental sustainability, and cultural integration at station hubs. With smart signage, integrated transport links, and inclusive facilities, the redeveloped stations are designed to offer a world-class experience for every traveller.
