The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday made a significant breakthrough in the November 10 Delhi car-bombing case, arresting a Faridabad resident accused of sheltering the attack&rsquo;s mastermind, Dr Umar Muhammad alias Un Nabi, in the days leading up to the blast. The accused, Soyab from Dhauj village, is the seventh person detained, with investigators saying he played a &ldquo;critical logistical role&rdquo; in enabling Umar&rsquo;s movements and preparations for the suicide bombing near the Red Fort that killed and injured several civilians.
According to NIA officials, searches across multiple states conducted with the help of local police have revealed that Umar operated as a highly mobile bomb-maker, travelling with what investigators describe as a&nbsp;&ldquo;mobile workstation&rdquo;, a large suitcase packed with tools, chemical compounds and containers used for assembling explosives. &ldquo;He carried it everywhere,&rdquo; an officer said, adding that the suitcase was later recovered with bomb-making materials intact.
Umar, a trained medical professional linked to Al-Falah University in Faridabad, allegedly performed chemical experiments inside his campus room before assembling the final IED used in the attack. Interrogation of co-accused Dr Muzamil Shakeel has confirmed that Umar tested reactions in small quantities using chemicals later recovered from the blast site. Investigators say the suicide bomber completed the final mix including acetone, powdered sugar and urea, inside the Hyundai i20 shortly before triggering the explosion.
Probing deeper, officials revealed that the terror module had initially planned to shift stockpiled explosives from Haryana to Jammu &amp; Kashmir for a larger operation. That plan collapsed, prompting Umar to procure key materials, including urea, from Nuh-Mewat. Fellow operatives told investigators that Umar, who called himself the &ldquo;emir&rdquo; of the module and was fluent in nine languages, was considered the brain behind the outfit&rsquo;s operations. The NIA says it is now pursuing all remaining links to bring the entire network to justice.
