Iran&rsquo;s Foreign Ministry has summoned Austria&rsquo;s charge d&rsquo;affaires in Tehran to protest what it called &ldquo;misleading and baseless&rdquo; allegations in an Austrian intelligence report concerning its nuclear program.
Senior Iranian diplomat Alireza Molaqadimi met with Michaela Pacher to express strong objections to a recent report issued by Austria's Directorate of State Protection and Intelligence Service. The report, released on Monday, claimed that Iran was continuing to pursue "an active nuclear weapons programme" to expand its regional influence and deter external threats.
Molaqadimi firmly rejected these claims, stating they were inconsistent with the findings of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He emphasized that Iran&rsquo;s nuclear activities fully comply with its commitments under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and described the Austrian report as &ldquo;irresponsible and provocative.&rdquo;
He further called on Vienna to issue an official explanation, asserting that the allegations unjustly cast doubt on the peaceful nature of Iran&rsquo;s nuclear efforts.
In response, Pacher assured Iranian officials that she would relay Tehran&rsquo;s concerns to the Austrian government.
Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei also criticized the report, dismissing it as &ldquo;fake and baseless,&rdquo; and accused Austria of contributing to a broader media campaign against Iran.
The development comes amid ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding Tehran&rsquo;s nuclear program and the potential lifting of U.S. sanctions. Five rounds of talks have been held since April under Omani mediation&mdash;three in Muscat and two in Rome.
