An IndiGo flight from Jeddah to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai early Saturday morning after airport authorities in Hyderabad received a threat email warning of a possible &ldquo;human bomb&rdquo; on board the aircraft.
According to officials, the email was received by Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) around 5:30 am. It warned authorities to stop the landing of IndiGo flight 6E 68 in Hyderabad, claiming that suspected operatives were onboard and planning an attack &ldquo;similar to the 1984 Madras Airport modus operandi.&rdquo;
Acting swiftly, authorities directed the flight to divert to Mumbai instead of proceeding to Hyderabad. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers were reported to be secure.
An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident in an official statement, saying, &ldquo;A security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad on November 1. The aircraft was diverted to Mumbai as a precaution. Following the established protocol, we immediately informed the relevant authorities and fully cooperated with them to conduct the necessary security checks before the aircraft was cleared for further operations.&rdquo;
Security teams in Mumbai conducted a detailed inspection of the aircraft after landing, including a complete baggage and passenger screening process. The investigation into the origin and authenticity of the threat email is underway.
Authorities have assured passengers that all standard safety procedures were followed and that there was no compromise in security at any stage.
The incident has once again highlighted the continuing challenges airlines and airports face amid increasing instances of online threats and hoaxes targeting aviation safety.
