<p data-start="191" data-end="457"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police have launched a thorough investigation into the suspected murder of a 23-year-old man with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at a care home for persons with intellectual disabilities in Pollachi.</span></p>
<p data-start="459" data-end="623"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Six special police teams have been formed to investigate the case. Two individuals connected to the care home have been detained, while four others remain at large.</span></p>
<p data-start="625" data-end="1040"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The victim, S. R. Varunkanth, was the son of T. Ravikumar and Banumathi of Amman Nagar, Karavali Mathappur. He was admitted to the Yuthira Charitable Trust (Special Children Care and Training Centre) in Rathinasabapathy Puram on February 4 for rehabilitation. His family was charged Rs 40,000 per month and had contributed Rs 50,000 of a promised Rs 1 lakh donation. Visitation was limited to once every six months.</span></p>
<p data-start="1042" data-end="1288"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">On May 12, the care home claimed that Varunkanth had gone missing during a group visit to Aliyar Dam. His father filed a missing person complaint with the Aliyar Police on May 15. However, inconsistencies in the home&rsquo;s narrative began to surface.</span></p>
<p data-start="1290" data-end="1537"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">CCTV footage from Aliyar Dam showed no evidence of Varunkanth's presence. The family then received disturbing reports that he had been physically assaulted by staff on May 12. A video emerged showing him sitting on the floor with visible injuries.</span></p>
<p data-start="1539" data-end="1758"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Concerned by these revelations, the family contacted Coimbatore Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan. The investigation was transferred to Mahalingapuram Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the care facility.</span></p>
<p data-start="1760" data-end="2048"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Soon after, all six suspects, including staff members and trustees, went into hiding. Police later detained two of them. During questioning, the suspects admitted that Varunkanth had died from the abuse and was buried on a piece of farmland owned by the trust in S. Nagoor near Naduppuni.</span></p>
<p data-start="2050" data-end="2340"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Authorities attempted to exhume the body on Friday, but were unable to locate the exact burial site. Officials from the District Differently-Abled Welfare Department reported that 26 residents had been living at the care home. Following the incident, most were sent back to their hometowns.</span></p>
<p data-start="2342" data-end="2582"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Seven inmates had reportedly been moved without consent to a relative&rsquo;s house owned by one of the suspects. Police and welfare officers rescued six on Thursday and one more on Friday. Efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their families.</span></p>
<p data-start="2584" data-end="2903" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node=""><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The care facility had recently been recognized by the Commissionerate for the Welfare of the Differently-Abled on May 12 based on its three-year operational record, although it did not receive government funding. The centre has now been shut down due to fee collection violations and the ongoing criminal investigation.</span></p>
