A horrific incident has occurred in the Hathijan area of Ahmedabad where a 4-year-old girl lost her life following an attack by a Rottweiler dog. Police have arrested Dilip Patel, the dog's owner, after the incident which sparked tremendous anger throughout the residential society. The attack was so severe that the young child succumbed to her injuries.
The tragedy took place at Radhe Residency in Hathijan where the pet dog savagely attacked the 4-year-old girl. According to reports, the child was sitting with her aunt on the veranda when the owner's daughter-in-law took the dog out for a walk. Suddenly, the dog dragged the woman holding its leash and lunged at the child sitting with her aunt. The Rottweiler gripped the child's head in its mouth for 5 to 10 seconds, causing severe injuries. The impact fractured the child's skull, resulting in haemorrhage, and despite medical treatment, the child passed away.
The incident created tremendous distress in the community. Residents of the society filed a complaint against the dog's owner at Vivekanand Police Station, demanding strict action. Police investigation revealed that Rottweilers are a prohibited breed, yet the owner kept one in his home. The owner had also failed to register the dog. Upon learning of the incident, Vivekanand Police, along with AMC officials, took custody of the animal.
Police have now arrested the dog's owner, Dilip Patel, under sections 106(1) and 291 of the BNS. The owner had disregarded regulations, putting people's lives at risk. This heart-wrenching incident in Ahmedabad's Hathijan area has left people stunned.
It's worth noting that the menace of stray dogs is increasing daily in the streets of Ahmedabad and throughout the state. According to a WHO report, between 18,000 and 20,000 people die annually in India due to rabies, with most cases resulting from dog bites. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation conducts campaigns to catch stray dogs and sterilise them, but the problem remains uncontrolled. The growing number of dogs in urban areas has become a significant headache. When will the authorities succeed in preventing such incidents? When will specific regulations governing pet dogs be implemented?
