The actor expressed deep disappointment over the change, stating that the decision was made despite his clear opposition.
The original 2013 film, known for its poignant and tragic ending, has been re-released in Tamil Nadu with an AI-generated alternate climax. In the new version, Dhanush&rsquo;s character Kundan survives and reunites with his loved ones, replacing the emotional and dramatic ending where he dies. The new version was created without the involvement of the original cast or crew.
In a statement shared on social media, Dhanush said the altered ending had stripped the film of its essence. He stated that he had not given consent for the changes and was deeply disturbed by the use of AI to modify a story he committed to over a decade ago. According to him, such interference undermines the creative vision of the original film.
Director Aanand L. Rai also expressed disappointment, calling the AI-generated ending a reckless alteration of a work that was built with passion and integrity. He said the original team had not been informed or consulted before the release of the new version. The director hinted that legal steps might be considered in response to the unauthorized changes.
The film&rsquo;s producer and rights holder, however, defended the release by stating that the alternate version was offered to provide a different perspective to audiences. They claimed the original film remains available and that the AI version is an additional creative interpretation.
