The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday announced the successful execution of its assigned operations during Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali national.
The operation commenced in the early hours of May 7, targeting nine identified terror facilities located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).&nbsp;
These sites were chosen based on credible intelligence indicating their involvement in terrorist activity. All retaliatory actions following Pakistani offensives have also been conducted under the umbrella of Operation Sindoor.
According to the IAF, &ldquo;The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully executed its assigned tasks in Operation Sindoor, with precision and professionalism. Operations were conducted in a deliberate and discreet manner, aligned with National Objectives. Since the operations are still ongoing, a detailed briefing will be conducted in due course. The IAF urges all to refrain from speculation and dissemination of unverified information.&rdquo;
The operation follows heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, triggered by India&rsquo;s military response. This escalation led to intensified cross-border shelling initiated by Pakistan and subsequent retaliatory actions by Indian forces.&nbsp;
In response, high alert was declared in border regions, and precautionary power blackouts were implemented during Pakistani attacks.
On May 9, during a press briefing, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh detailed airspace violations by the Pakistan military that took place on the night of May 8&ndash;9.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC), drone intrusions were attempted from Leh to Sir Creek at 36 locations with approximately 300 to 400 drones,&rdquo; she said.&nbsp;
The briefing was conducted jointly with Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
Singh stated, &ldquo;Indian Armed Forces brought down a number of these drones using kinetic and non-kinetic means. The possible purpose of these large-scale aerial intrusions was to test the AD (air defence) systems and gather intelligence.&rdquo;
The IAF also reported, &ldquo;Pakistan has used swarm drones to intrude into Indian airspace, but they have met with a proportionate and effective response from the Indian military, thanks to its robust air defence system.&rdquo;
The announcement came a day after both India and Pakistan agreed to an immediate halt to all military activity across land, air, and sea. The ceasefire understanding came into effect on May 10.
The IAF confirmed that Operation Sindoor is continuing and stated that further information will be shared at an appropriate time.
