Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad recorded an unprecedented footfall of 1.34 crore passengers during the financial year 2024&ndash;25, reflecting a 14.8% increase over the 1.16 crore travellers reported in the previous year, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by Ahmedabad International Airport Limited (AIAL).
The airport operator noted that this upward trend highlights Ahmedabad&rsquo;s growing significance as both a travel destination and a key transit point in the region. Passenger data showed a strong domestic performance, with over 11 million travellers flying within India, alongside more than 2.2 million international passengers connecting through Ahmedabad to various global locations.
The airport, managed by AIAL and owned by the Adani Group, is on a path of sustained development, with ongoing investments in infrastructure and technology aimed at reinforcing Ahmedabad&rsquo;s status as an emerging aviation hub.&nbsp;
The financial year also witnessed several prominent international events hosted in the city, contributing to increased traffic during peak times.
The single busiest day in the airport&rsquo;s history occurred on January 25, 2025, when it handled 48,137 passengers and managed 351 aircraft movements, surpassing the previous high of 42,224 passengers and 328 movements recorded on November 20, 2023.
On a daily basis, the airport now serves more than 36,800 passengers and operates an average of 288 flights, including charter services. It maintains connectivity with over 48 domestic and 16 international destinations.
Aircraft traffic also witnessed notable growth over the year, with a 16.2% increase in air traffic movements. The airport recorded 101,119 aircraft operations during 2024&ndash;25, up from 87,025 in 2023&ndash;24.
&ldquo;This enhanced operational capacity is a direct result of strategic infrastructure investments. The addition of five new parking stands and implementation of a Multiple Aircraft Ramp System (MARS) at the existing aerobridges has optimised the use of available space,&rdquo; AIAL stated.
Throughout the year, several new routes were added to the airport&rsquo;s network. Domestic destinations now include Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Nanded, Kolhapur, Dimapur, and Kishangarh. On the international front, new services to Don Mueang (Bangkok), Kuala Lumpur, and Da Nang were introduced, enhancing the city&rsquo;s global reach.
The airport also reported increased flight frequencies to major locations such as Delhi, Jeddah, Don Mueang, Kuwait, Kolkata, Kochi, and Abu Dhabi, indicating strong passenger demand and the airport&rsquo;s efforts to cater to growing traffic volumes.
To improve accessibility for travellers from nearby cities, a direct bus service connecting the airport to Vadodara has been launched, operated by the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC).
