Four students from the UCMAS Sama Centre in Vadodara have achieved outstanding success at the UCMAS International Mental Arithmetic Competition held on December 6&ndash;7 at SEU University in Tbilisi, Georgia. The global event featured more than 1,500 participants from nearly 80 countries, making it one of the largest abacus-based competitions in the world.
Representing India, the students delivered impressive results. Mrunmayee Nivas Divate earned the first rank, while Tweesha Sunilkumar Patel secured the second position. Nihitraj Siddharajsinh Parmar and Hirva Sunilkumar Patel both achieved third ranks in their respective categories.
The competition required participants to solve 200 arithmetic questions in just eight minutes using the mental abacus technique. This method involves visualising an abacus and mentally manipulating beads to reach solutions, testing precision, speed and focus simultaneously.
The students were trained under senior instructors Saurabh Parikh and Binal Parikh, who have been associated with UCMAS for over twenty years. Both mentors accompanied the team to Georgia, guiding them through rigorous preparation and helping them manage performance pressure.
Parents accompanying the delegation said the international platform allowed children to experience global academic standards and interact with participants from around the world.
Local educators applauded the achievement, noting that it highlights Vadodara&rsquo;s growing presence in international academic competitions and reflects the discipline offered at specialised learning centres. The accomplishment adds another milestone to the UCMAS Sama Centre&rsquo;s record and has been widely celebrated within the city&rsquo;s academic community.
