Late on June 22, the Ministry of Education took a significant step by handing over the investigation into alleged irregularities during the NEET (UG) 2024 examination to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This decision, aimed at ensuring transparency in the examination process, follows reports of cheating, impersonation, and other malpractices during the NEET (UG) exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 5, 2024. The Ministry stated that after careful review, it was necessary to entrust the matter to the CBI for a thorough investigation.
The NEET (UG) exam, conducted in pen and paper mode, saw its results declared on June 4. The Ministry's move to involve the CBI comes amidst widespread concern and protests over the alleged irregularities. 
In response to these issues, the government has also taken other actions, including the removal of NTA Director General Subodh Singh and the establishment of a seven-member panel led by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan to suggest reforms in the examination system.
Moreover, in a parallel effort to curb unfair means in public examinations, the Centre has enacted the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
