At least ten people lost their lives in separate road accidents across Maharashtra over the past two days, highlighting growing concerns over road safety in the state.
In the deadliest incident, four people were killed and six others injured in a head-on collision between two cars in Nashik district on Wednesday afternoon. The accident took place on a national highway in Dindori taluka near the Chachadgaon toll plaza around 3 pm.
Police said an Ertiga car travelling from Nashik towards Peth collided head-on with a Scorpio SUV coming from the opposite direction. Three of the deceased were residents of Devgarh in Rajasthan&rsquo;s Rajsamand district and were travelling in the SUV. They were identified as Chogalal Hiralal Gurjar (75), Kishanlal Hiralal Gurjar (45) and Poonam Gurjar (40). The fourth victim was the Ertiga driver, Shahrukh Khan Farakat Khan (28), a resident of Silvassa in Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Six people sustained injuries in the crash and were admitted to Nashik District Hospital and a private hospital. Both vehicles were severely damaged due to the impact.
In another incident, three people died on Monday afternoon after their motorcycle collided head-on with a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus in Buldhana district. The accident occurred on the Dhad&ndash;Sambhajinagar road near Kardi village. The victims, all residents of Dhalsawangi, died on the spot as the motorcycle was crushed and got stuck beneath the bus. The bus driver has been arrested, and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a separate road accident in Beed district on Monday. The incident took place on the Kada&ndash;Limbodi road in Ashti tehsil. The deceased, identified as Anil Mohan Khilare, was a resident of Sangvi Patan village and the sole earning member of his family.
Police said it is yet to be ascertained whether the accident occurred due to a collision with another vehicle or loss of control. However, the impact proved fatal, and the rider died at the spot.
Authorities have initiated investigations into all the incidents.
