New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a Ganesh puja at Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud&rsquo;s residence on Wednesday night. The ongoing Ganesh Utsav festival is being celebrated across India and the world, as people welcome &ldquo;Bappa&rdquo; into their homes.&nbsp;
Taking to his X (Twitter) account, the prime minister tweeted a picture of him performing the aarti, with CJI Chandrachud and his wife flanking him. This ignited a controversy on the ethical as well as moral correctness of the top minister interacting with the chief justice in an intimate setting.&nbsp;
Politicians and other netizens took to social media platforms and expressed their disappointment over Chandrachud&rsquo;s decision to invite PM Modi to his residence.&nbsp;
Here is what they had to say... Public interest lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan tweeted, &ldquo;Shocking that CJI Chandrachud allowed Modi to visit him at his residence for a private meeting. Sends a very bad signal to the judiciary which is tasked with the responsibility of protecting fundamental right of citizens from the executive &amp; ensuring that the govt acts within the bounds of the Constitution. That is why there has to be an arms length separation between the executive &amp; judiciary.&rdquo;&nbsp;
Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) Deputy Leader and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi was slightly sarcastic in her response to the Modi-CJI controversy. &ldquo;Okay. After the festivities are over hopefully CJI will deem fit and be slightly freer to conclude the hearing on Maharashtra and the blatant disregard of Article 10 of the Constitution in Maharashtra. Oh wait, elections round the corner anyway, it can be adjourned for another day,&rdquo; she tweeted.&nbsp;
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut also took Twitter and compared the &ldquo;meeting&rdquo; between PM Modi and CJI Chandrachud to &ldquo;burning the house of the Constitution by a lamp in it.&rdquo; He further cited the cases tried or undergoing trial by the judiciary, including the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) clean chit case, repeated court dates on case of &ldquo;anti-constitutional government&rdquo; operating in Maharashtra, taking suo motu cognizance of the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case but saying nothing about the Maharashtra rape case and no bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal yet. &ldquo;Why is all this happening? Understand the chronology. Long live Mother India!&rdquo; he further remarked.&nbsp;
