According to several sources connected to Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment, the crew is experiencing anxiety and despair as they alternate between being optimistic about payments and fearing that their next EMI will collapse if they don't.
Several crew members who were part of projects under Pooja Entertainment have expressed a lot of dissatisfaction regarding the untimely payment of money. They have said it is heartbreaking to wait for their outstanding payments from their production organisation.&nbsp;
They have given up their homes, eagerly anticipated credit messages, and made frantic calls while recuperating from hospitals, yet they are still waiting for payment for the hard work that they have provided to some of producer Vashu Bhagnani's most lucrative recent projects. The production company's latest release was the Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.&nbsp;
Bhagnani has been accused by an assortment of crew members this past weekend of failing to repay his dues. The crew members characterised what they described as "sheer frustration" of the individuals who worked but did not receive compensation in an Instagram post they coordinated on with many people. They named Pooja Entertainment, producers Vashu Bhagnani and his children, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and actor Jackky Bhagnani. They said &ldquo;The absolute disregard @pooja_ent has and the sheer unprofessional, unethical behaviour that we all have been tolerating for way too long. Being dodged from person to another just to ask for our own money which was promised to be cleared within 45-60 working days post completion which in itself is also unprofessional but the crew graciously agreed as we r a bunch driven by passion for filmmaking.&rdquo;
Following the disclosure, a number of people publicly criticised the production company, with Vashu Bhagnani going on record to refute any debt he may have to anyone. This led to conversations with the various members who were associated with the projects under Pooja Entertainment. They have all confirmed their accounts. According to them, the crew is in a state of "fear and gloom," alternately hopeful that payments will come through and fearful that their next EMI will fail if they don't.
Indianexpress.com spoke with a number of sources regarding the production of Mere Husband Ki Biwi, which starred actor Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and actor Rakul Preet Singh (who is also Jackky Bhagnani's wife). Despite the film being finished in 2022, a number of unpaid crew members have been pursuing full payment for their work.The focus puller for the Mudassar Aziz film, CH Ravi Kumar, said that the film's shooting had to be stopped due to crew non-payment. However, the filming was resumed after the team saw an email from Pooja Films stating that they will be paid next month. He explained how he sent in three bills&mdash;dated 22/11/22, 15/12/22, and 15/11/23&mdash;for his unpaid balance.
The workforce is paid according to two categories in the industry: Above the Line (ATL) and Below the Line (BTL). Actors, directors, cinematographers, production designers, editors, and other crew members are paid in trenches when working on an ATL project. Upon the film's signing, floor work, and completion, they will receive a portion of their remuneration. The art team, assistant, directing team, and DOPs team are among the BTL crew members who receive their salary mostly on a monthly basis. Sources claim that for the Arjun Kapoor movie and other Pooja Entertainment productions put together, close to 20&ndash;30 members of the BTL team have not received their due pay.
