Months after the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, sole survivor Viswashkumar Ramesh continues to grapple with immense emotional and physical trauma. The crash of the Gatwick-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner killed 241 passengers, including his brother Ajaykumar, and 19 others on the ground.
Ramesh, seated near the emergency exit, escaped moments before the aircraft plunged into a medical hostel building. His brother, seated elsewhere, did not survive. Since then, Ramesh&rsquo;s life has changed drastically, marked by grief, pain, and financial distress.
Living in Leicester with his wife and four-year-old son, Ramesh struggles daily with severe knee, shoulder, and back injuries, as well as burn scars. He rarely leaves his room, battling the emotional toll of losing his brother and the collapse of their fishing business in India.
His advisor, Radd Seiger, and community leader Sanjiv Patel have urged Air India to offer more than financial compensation. The airline recently paid him an interim sum of &pound;21,500 (about ₹21.9 lakh), but his supporters say it is insufficient to rebuild his life.
Air India&rsquo;s parent company, Tata Group, has stated that it remains committed to assisting Ramesh and the families of all victims. Senior officials have reached out to arrange meetings and extend continued support.
The crash, which killed nearly all on board, remains one of the deadliest aviation disasters in India&rsquo;s recent history, and for Ramesh, survival has become a lifelong battle.
