Rajpal's Bail Plea Delayed in Cheque Bounce Case

There appears to be no immediate relief for actor Rajpal Yadav after the Delhi High Court postponed the hearing of his bail plea to February 16 in connection with an ongoing cheque bounce case.

Following the court proceedings, his counsel Bhaskar Upadhyay stated that the actor has already paid ₹2.5 crore out of a ₹5 crore loan taken for a film project and is prepared to deposit additional funds if required.

The lawyer indicated that the matter is essentially financial and emphasised that incarceration should not depend solely on prior undertakings. Efforts were reportedly made to consult the actor in jail, but a meeting could not take place. The legal team now plans to meet him personally to better understand the court’s position on earlier commitments.

According to the defence, the original liability has grown significantly over time, with roughly ₹1 crore previously deposited with the court registry. A cheque of ₹25 lakh was also submitted during the latest hearing, signalling the actor’s intent to resolve the dispute.

With partial repayments already made and assurances of further deposits, the case may move toward settlement depending on the court’s decision at the next hearing. For now, the focus remains on whether the payments will influence the court’s stance on bail.
