Bhopal septic tank murder
A woman was allegedly strangled by her married partner and her body concealed inside an iron box before being dumped into a septic tank in Bhopal, police said.
The remains were discovered on Thursday evening in an area under the Nishatpura police station limits after children playing nearby complained of a foul smell. Residents noticed an iron box floating inside a water-filled tank on a vacant plot and alerted authorities. Police retrieved the container and recovered the woman’s body, which has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Initial reports said the victim’s identity was being verified. However, subsequent media accounts identified her as Ashrafi alias Siya, originally from Maharashtra’s Gondia district.
Investigators suspect she was killed earlier this week by her partner, Sameer, who is married and has two children. According to police sources cited in media reports, the two had connected on Instagram about a year ago and later entered into a relationship. Around three months ago, Siya reportedly moved to Bhopal to live with him in the Kamla Nagar area.
Tensions allegedly escalated due to frequent disputes, including arguments involving Sameer’s wife. Police believe a heated altercation on Monday turned fatal, with Siya allegedly being strangled during the confrontation.
Authorities suspect the accused, with assistance from family members, placed the body inside an iron box and disposed of it in the septic tank to destroy evidence. While Sameer is currently absconding, police have reportedly detained his brother, mother and sister in connection with the case.
Further investigation is underway.
